All about KC Computer Repair
KC Computer Repair is a computer store with one thing in mind...customer service. With that said, I must back up a few years. Before owning this shop, I was a computer user like most of us. When my computers had problems, I would take them to the big name stores with the thought that they MUST know what they are doing or they wouldn't be so big. Was I ever wrong! After checking my computer in at the front counter, I would watch as it would be carried off into some back room someplace, the Mighty Abyss. When I would get my computer back home, I would find horror. Photos gone...documents gone...email addresses gone. The technical problem would have been solved, but all the items that were important to me would have been destroyed in doing so. And did anyone call to say this had happened? No. And when I would call and ask what had happened to my very important data, the attitude was that I was too simple to have data. Or, that it had to be sacrificed to regain the operating system. What happened to customer service? What happened to using the phone to contact the customer and ask what was most important to them?
Now, we all know about backing up and we all know we should do it. But does anyone take the time to help through the "How To's" of the almighty backup? Nope. We are left to our own devices. The people in the know say lots of words that come through our ears as words, and hit our brain as blah, blah, blah.
We are here to help you, as the customer, learn as much about keeping your computers and your data as safe as it can be. We all have data loss, and we will have it in our future (seems to be a fact of computing), but there are ways of making it something that is a little more palatable.
Here are a few tips on making computing safer:
- Don't wait for a complete system failure to have the computer checked. Routine checkups can detect a virus and malware problems before they become a major crisis.
- Learn how to back up your data Don't COUNT on the computer tech to be able to pull the rabbit out of the hat after the system crashes.
- Don't let a tech talk over your head. Stop the person that is explaining the technical stuff to you and say "WHAT?" It is nothing to be ashamed of to not know as much as they do. The attitude of computer teching MUST change. This is service industry, not a dictatorship.
- Find the right tech for you. This is like finding the right doctor. Keep in mind that your needs may be different than your neighbors. They may do well with one tech, but you may find that is not the right person to handle YOUR computing needs.
- Don't expect too much from your hardware. Just like with cars, hardware wears out. If the case were to wear out...get holes and thin a bit, you might be more inclined to say "it's time for a new computer." But because they look good, we tend to think that they are solid, viable tools.
- Schedule a session with the tech to go over questions and details about your needs. At KC Computer Repair, you can get me in your home at a very low fee to discuss your needs, and most of it can be handled in about an hour.
